The Brief:
This was a premium koi pond build in Derby — featuring a glass viewing window set into the pond wall, a bespoke filter housing built to match the pond design, and a new patio to complete the outdoor space. The customer was a serious koi enthusiast who wanted everything built to the highest specification, with fish welfare and display at the centre of the design.
What We Did:
The pond was designed from scratch around the customer’s requirements — the correct depth for koi welfare, strong filtration provision from day one, and a glass viewing panel set into one of the pond walls. The glass installation required precise construction of a watertight frame and seal, and was built to a specification that ensures long-term reliability.
A bespoke filter housing was constructed alongside the pond — housing all filtration equipment out of sight but easily accessible for maintenance. The filtration system was specified for the full pond volume and intended fish load. The patio was then laid to complete the space, providing a clean level area for viewing and sitting beside the pond. All plumbing was fully concealed within the pond and housing structure.
The pond was filled, systems commissioned and water quality confirmed stable before any fish were introduced.
The Result:
The finished pond is a showpiece. The glass viewing window provides a unique perspective on the koi as they swim past — a feature the customer enjoys daily. The bespoke filter housing integrates perfectly with the overall design, and the patio completes a fully considered outdoor space built entirely around the pond.
