Old Pond Converted into a Pebble Fountain Feature — Ravenshead

The Brief:

The customer in Ravenshead had a raised garden pond that had become unwanted — they no longer wished to maintain it as a fish pond, but wanted to keep movement and the sound of water in their garden. They asked JDM Ponds to transform the space into an attractive, low-maintenance water feature that would look good all year round without the ongoing demands of a traditional pond.

What We Did:

We drained the existing pond and removed the liner. The pond basin was cleaned out and repurposed as the hidden underground reservoir for a self-contained pebble fountain system. A submersible pump was installed at the base of the reservoir with pipework running up through the centre of the feature to a fountain head above.

The reservoir was then covered with a sturdy grate or mesh and the entire surface filled with decorative pebbles — concealing all the mechanics of the system while creating a beautiful natural stone surface. The fountain rises through the pebble bed, recirculates water back into the hidden reservoir below, and the whole system operates on a simple plug-in timer. The raised surround of the original pond was retained and finished to frame the feature cleanly.

The Result:

The finished pebble fountain is a striking, low-maintenance feature that completely transformed the space. The sound of the water, the movement of the fountain and the natural stone surface give the customer everything they loved about having water in the garden — without any of the maintenance of a fish pond. The feature looks equally good in summer and winter.
